Stewardship and Giving

How can I give to life of the church in Stanwix and Belah?

In response to the many gifts that God has given us we are called to offer something of ourselves in return. Church members contribute to the life and work of the church in many different ways. This may be financially and it may be in terms of our gifts, time or talents. If you feel that you are being called by God to offer your services within the life of the church then please speak to someone in leadership in the church.

If you wish to give financially to the work of the parish there are a number of ways of doing this. Please contact the Parish Office (please link to Contact Us page)
for more information:

  • Placing money in the offering box as you come into church on a Sunday
  • The weekly envelope scheme*
  • Standing Order*
  • Sending a cheque, made payable to Stanwix Parish, to the church office*
  • Legacy (see below).

By choosing one of the options marked with a star above then you can significantly increase your gift through the Gift Aid scheme.

Gift Aid

The gift aid scheme is run by the government to enable charities to reclaim tax already paid by the taxpayer. For every £10 given we can claim £2.50 back from the government.

Important notes:-

  • You must be a UK taxpayer, and pay sufficient income tax or Capital Gains Tax. If you have only paid £100 in tax in any tax year we cannot claim £200. The onus is on the taxpayer to check this. You will be liable to refund the revenue if too much tax is claimed. You should also consider other charities you give to.
  • Higher rate tax payers can even elect with the revenue for the church to receive the difference between the basic and higher rate.
  • This only applies to you and not another tax payer (e.g. spouse)
  • If you cease to pay tax you must inform the gift aid secretary straight away
  • Any data held for Gift Aid purposes will be held in accordance with the Date Protection Act 1998

If you wish to Gift Aid your donation or would like more information please contact the Parish Office. (please link to Contact Us page)

Legacies

Legacies are one of the most valuable gifts you can give to your church. They can be a vital source of income and help us plan into the future to ensure that we can continue our work.

Making a will is the only certain way of ensuring that the estate of a person is administered in accordance with their wishes. As circumstance change, it is necessary to review the terms of a Will to reflect the current circumstances and wishes of the benefactor.

Whilst it is possible to make a Will using a pre-printed form it is wiser to consult a Solicitor who will help to draft the details and guide the choice of executors. It is worthwhile to do some careful thinking and planning before visiting a Solicitor.
